Catherine Hewson has recently become active as a West Midlands Ambulance Service Community First Responder and joins the Ettington Community First Responder team. Catherine is married and lives in Pillerton Priors. She lived in Pillerton Hersey until her early twenties so has a good local knowledge of the Pillertons and surrounding villages. Catherine worked for 13 years as a Cardiac Physiologist at Walsgrave hospital in Coventry and is currently working for Philips Healthcare training users of medical ultrasound around the country.
Catherine said; “The Pillertons and Ettington are beautiful locations to live in but, as rural locations, the emergency services can struggle to get to 999 calls quickly enough. The generosity of local villagers has funded the purchase of my equipment so I hope this, used in conjunction with the training I have received from West Midlands Ambulance Service, will allow me to support the community if they require emergency medical support”.
Catherine becomes the 7th Community First Responder (CFR) in the Ettington CFR Scheme.  The team comprises of CFRs based in Ettington, Newbold-on-Stour, Pillerton Priors and Pillerton Hersey.  An 8th CFR, based in Halford, is currently undergoing induction with West Midlands Ambulance Service.  The team also includes three non-CFR members in key roles; Scheme Coordinator, Secretary and Treasurer.
