The original Ettington CFR Scheme car was a 2004 Ford Mondeo 2.0 litre that previously saw service as a fast response vehicle with West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS). The car served us well but as it neared the end of reliable life, thanks to the tremendous support we are fortunate to receive. we were able to replace it with a Ford Focus Estate.
The new car, as its predecessor, contains a 2-way radio and tracking system that links with the WMAS Emergency Operations Centre; it is therefore at the very core of how we operate. We have to obey speed limits and cannot use our strobe light when in motion but the highly visible 'Battenburg' livery is still an asset - especially along with the strobe light when parked on scene; it helps confirm to an ambulance crew that they have arrived at the right place, and in the dark the flickering of the strobe light can be seen from a long way off.
Photos of the new car will follow shortly, but in the mean time here are some of its predecessor.
