Coverage Area
The team covers the following villages, and surrounding areas, South-East of Stratford-upon-Avon in South Warwickshire:
Alderminster, Armscote, Crimscote, Ettington, Fulready, Halford, Newbold-on-Stour, Pillerton Hersey, Pillerton Priors, Tredington. Collectively, this is known as the 'Stourdene' region as the villages are all close to the River Stour and River Dene. In addition to providing cover in these primary areas, we provide occasional support for our colleagues in neighbouring CFR teams in villages such as Kineton, Ilmington, Oxhill and Shipston-on-Stour. At times of exceptional demand, we have also supported the ambulance service in Stratford-upon-Avon.
More Detail
When Ettington CFR Scheme was initially set up in June 2009, it consisted of two Community First Responders (CFRs) based in Ettington. At that time, we were tasked by West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) to cover a radius of approximately 3 miles from the village of Ettington.
Subsequently, the team has expanded to include additional CFRs in Ettington and, signficantly, CFRs in other villages such as Alderminster, Halford (imminent), Newbold-on-Stour, Pillerton Hersey and Pillerton Priors. As our policy is to equip each CFR with their own equipment, each CFR can be tasked individually by WMAS thus allowing the WMAS Emergency Operations Centre to assign our nearest on-duty CFR to the incident. As such, our area of coverage is defined by the area of cover for each of our CFRs thus making it far more extensive than the original area of coverage at formation in June 2009.
The diversity of location of our CFRs means that we generally have a very rapid response time for all the villages in our coverage area. One of the many benefits of the team is that we provide overlapping cover such that, for example, our Pillerton-based CFRs might be tasked by WMAS to cover Ettington in the event of Ettington-based CFRs being unavailable, our Ettington-based CFRs might be tasked to cover Alderminster if no CFR is available there ... and so on.
Essentially, as each CFR has their own equipment, they can log on and off independently of the other CFRs in the team, and this provides WMAS with the flexibility to call the nearest on-duty team member to attend an incident. As a result, our effective area of coverage is defined by the aggregate of all the 3-mile radii of the homes of all our team members. (This excludes areas covered by our colleagues in neighbouring teams such as Oxhill, Kineton, Shipston-on-Stour and Ilmington although, of course, we are always available to support those teams if required). Our principal coverage area therefore includes Alderminster, Armscote, Crimscote, Ettington, Fulready, Halford, Idlicote, Newbold-on-Stour, Pillerton Hersey, Pillerton Priors and Tredington. We also cover homes and businesses in between all these villages; including hotels and pubs.
